Hermanus Backpackers is an owner-run lodge, Hayley & Braam have owned and run the place since 1999… with the help of their dedicated staff. Braam is a South African, Hayley is an Australian/Brit. Both have travelled extensively and even met while on the road, so can happily chat you to about the rigors of travelling life. They know what you need in a backpackers hostel and work hard to ensure that your stay with them is comfortable and enjoyable, trying their best to keep a happy mix between inexpensive and good quality.

We’re not just staff… we don’t just work… we live, eat, sleep, drink and breathe purely for the pleasure of meeting great people & making sure our guests leave Hermanus as Friends with spectacular memories of our time together! Hand picked for their enthusiasm, go-getter attitude, frivolity, local knowledge, interest in travel and .. most importantly of all… their ability to hold their alcohol, party all night as if there’s NO tomorrow and STILL be up and ‘at it’ before our guests!! So… regardless of what you need, where you want to go or what you want to do… there’s always Somebody proficient in English and general Backpackers slang to ensure you have everything you need!

In the evenings the communal area lights up with most guests convening for a braai and a game of pool.

Hermanus is commonly known as the best Land-Based Whale watching area in the world. Nestled between mountain and sea. Hermanus also boasts Champagne Air (Great if you’re a non-smoker!) Shops, Retaurants, Bars, Art Galleries, Wine Farms, Beer Tasting, Adventure Activities (Shark Cage Diving!) Nature walks,Southern Right Whales and so much more…Hermanus is on the Coast of the Southern Cape, one of the most beautiful areas that South Africa has to offer. We’re just over the mountain from Cape Town – en-route to Plettenberg Bay, Knysna (also known as the Garden Route)
NB Hermanus is easy 120km from Cape Town and 100km from Cape Town International Airport!
